The Pictures' second album comes more than three years after their acclaimed debut, Pieces Of Eight. Self-produced and self-financed, Kicking Indifference is a grand, glorious record. Singer/guitarist Davey Lane calls it "a little bit trashy, a little bit kitchen-sinky with a wee splash of bombast. It’s the sort of record you'd imagine Queen would make – if they were making it in Ferntree Gully!" Forgetting fads, Davey Lane and Luke Thomas had one simple aim – to make an album of great songs. The Pictures have been on hiatus for the last 2 years or so, overcoming many a hurdle along the way. Lineup changes, management and record label troubles all threatened to put an end to the group, before they resolved to begin recording their second LP late last year. In the meantime, Luke Thomas completed a debut LP with the Deserters, and Davey Lane recorded and toured with You Am I and Crowded House. Kicking Indifference promises a busy and fruitful 2009 for the Pictures, whose lineup is completed by Joel Ellis (Nunchukka Superfly/Mink Jaguar) on drumkit. The first single Can You Hear It is released nationally supported by a short tour up the east coast, with the official launch at the Tote Hotel, Friday 12 December. 9pm, $12 entry
