It’s the first time these two new darlings of the alt-folk/jazz scene are teaming up to present an evening of some of the finest new original music, each with their own special twist. Don’t miss this special event at The Empress, Sunday 31st August, 8pm. $7/5 on the door.
Described as a musician who has “all the confidence, talent and originality to make it as a major artist”, Mei Lai Swan has been going from strength to strength since releasing her debut EP The Morning Tree through Vitamin Records earlier this year.
With her beautiful debut and a powerfully captivating live show on cello, vocals and loops, this Alice Springs-based cellist songstress has been winning over national audiences and garnering showcase opportunities and awards, including Triple J’s Top Song competition for the NT.
After a busy month travelling the country performing at festivals and showcases and recording a new single, she’s now gracing Melbourne to warm up the last of winter with a full band show at The Empress Hotel, joined by fellow Triple J award winner Eva Popov.
Eva Popov has been performing around Melbourne venues for years, both solo and with her band of drums, strings and harmonies. Her debut album Me, the Sea & Stars was released in early 2008 and has been described as “brilliantly engaging and heartwrenching” by Beat magazine.
