Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson is Lykke Li, the 22 year old Swede who has set our hearts a flutter. Her magnificently brittle, candy coated vocals have become the underground musical discovery of the year. So with her debut album 'Youth Novels' officially out and all over your radio, there is no better time for us to bring this budding young pop star to our shores. She heads to Australia to perform at the sold out Falls Festival in Marion Bay and Lorne, Southbound Festival in Busselton, and now announces two headline club shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
Lykke Li is otherworldly. Born in Sweden and raised on a Portugese mountaintop, she has descended upon the earth with gifts of enlightened pop music, inspired by Madonna’s 'Immaculate Collection', Kate Bush’s quirk, and the desire to be a famous R&B artist.
After soliciting her three track demo to Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John fame, Lykke Li had found her producer. They recorded the 'Little Bit' EP, released on Lykke’s own label LL Recordings in 2007. At that, the mainstream Swedish press and indie bloggers around the world combined their powers, and decided that this clandestine artist should indeed be famous.
Released in September, the debut album ‘Youth Novels’ has already been warmly embraced by the people and the critics – let’s face it, they have feelings too! The Lykke Li balladry makes heartache and pain sound sweet as pie. Your shoulders will shake, your feet will tap and everything will feel a whole lot better.
