So finally the exam frenzy had finished, and one of the most exciting nights in the last 5 weeks was on my doorstep…a trip back in memory lane, a concert full of energy, funk and fun…a concert with the Gurge!
A decent size crowd had swelled to the Leopold by the time I had rocked up, and managed to push my way to the front just in time to see Quan take the stage. Their entry was something out of a sci-fi movie; with the stage lights dimmed, all wearing head gear with LED lights, the opened with their newest song, "Blood and Spunk". After finishing this, they discarded the headgear and launched into an hour of the songs that I grew up with.
Some of the crowd seemed to be only interested in their newer stuff, and hearing their token radio songs, i.e; “ I Like Your Old Stuff Better Than Your New Stuff” and “Polyester Girl.” It was to my great relief that these songs were skipped, in lieu of “Song Formerly Known As” and “Black Bugs”. Having these tracks in the set kept the dream alive for me, as all I wanted to see was the boys (and girl!) rocking out to the max on the songs that brought them such a devote audience.
The final song for the night was to be “The Drop”, and it was performed, as every other song, magnificently, with great gusto. For 20 bucks, it was one of the best shows I have ever witnessed, and proved the theory that sometimes, the simple things in life are the greatest!
