A quick chat with Danny George Wilson, frontman of English folk rock/ psychadelic/ buzzfun band Danny and the Champions of the World was, although short, illuminating. Enough to make this usually hermitic editor grab tix to one of their upcoming Australian shows, if that counts for anything.
So, who are you and what do you do?
Good question – sill getting used to the time difference between here and London, I woke up this morning pretty much asking the same thing. But I'm pretty sure that I'm Danny George Wilson and I'm over here in Australia playing some show to promote the new album, Danny and the Champions of the World.
And what was the process of making that album like?
A farm + friends + starry nights + campfire + cider + singing = DANNY & THE CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD
What can Aussie punters expect from your show?
No set list, six strings, heart on a sleeve, good times
Who/what are your greatest musical and non-musical influences?
I think that Ronnie Lane [best known as part of 1960s mod group, The Small Faces] is ultimately my biggest musical influence – he wrote simple, beautiful songs that evoke that magical romance of life and true friendship.
Non- musical is difficult, there's so many. Here's a few off the top of my head...Jack Kerouac, Peter Blake, The Muppets, Andre The Giant, Huckleberry Finn, good folks, people who can make and build stuff...

Eartha Kitt's pretty good, isn't she?
Not as good as Ann Peebles [1970s Memphis soul singer who, in this editor's opinion, is not as good as Eartha Kitt, though just fine in her own right]
What do you guys do to kill time on the road?
Draw cartoons of each other, play guitars, argue about what's on the stereo, watch funny and stupid films and drink and smoke.
