Illzilla - Wasteland (Album)
Melbourne hip-hop group Illzilla are conquering some of the toughest issues of our time. Nothing seems beyond these guys: politics, the economy, and consumerism – Illzilla are on fire, and they’re making the anthems of our generation. Dedicated to the memory of former member Paul Havea, their new full-length debut album Wasteland is fantastic! Paul Havea is featured on three tracks (his vocal strength is most noticeable on The Shirt Song) along with the added flavour of other special guests, bringing an array of varying talents on this work of art.
Since winning the Victorian Triple J Unearthed competition in 2006, they have only gotten stronger. Illzilla bring both studio-recorded live instruments and sample based electronic production, to their album which is what adds to their unique sound. These effects are probably most evident in their fast paced track Cut Feet, which you’re likely to have heard at some stage on Triple J at the moment.
Even without having a background or degree in hip-hop, it’s not hard to appreciate what it is that these guys are doing. From acoustic style, reggae, blues, soul, to heavy beats, and tracks that will make you want to move, by incorporating these different genres, Illzilla are ensuring that there’s something for everyone on Wasteland.
Finally there is a hip-hop group focused on bringing something new to the table, and what a treat it is!
