Red Rival - Up All Night (EP)
» Red Rival (EP Launch) - Curly's Bar, Tas - June 29, 2007
» Falls Festival 2006 / 2007 - Marion Bay, Tas - December 30, 2006
Red Rival formed just over a year ago in early 2006 and Up All Night is the perfect way to showcase a sample of songs that have got them through their year of live shows including the Falls Festival. The EP has an up beat feel and a raw sound which some bands get when they approach their recording in a DIY way. Powerchords in this rock 'n' roll EP are simple and groovy...it makes driving through traffic enjoyable...The sound isn't new but I truly enjoyed listening to these tracks. Like all good music it grows on you the more you hear it.
To use the bands own words “Get a good beat going, lock in the bass and then throw in some pretty crazy guitar and vocals. I think it's all about making something that is simple, but feels good to play and hopefully sounds good and isn't too contrived or naff”
If you like your rock loud groovy catchy and fun this EP will suit well. The EPs Cover didn't work for me. The Photoshop look has lost its appeal although I loved the image of the band on the inside sleeve. Again nothing ground breaking just a straight forward picture of the band taken well. If your looking for a new sound or the next wave of rock then you will be disappointed. The EP is a great showcase of their work but to really enjoy these guys I am sure you will need to attend one of their shows. I look forward to catching the show when they make it to Sydney . Many will love this EP as it contains positive energy and really at the end of the day it makes you feels good to know that these guys are making music because they love doing it!
