birds of tokyo silhouettic

Birds of Tokyo's Silhouettic features just a single song – predictably, Silhouettic. I actually heard this song half a dozen times on the radio before I realised that it was Birds of Tokyo. The EP album features a dark sailing ship silhouetted against the moon.

Silhouettic is a finely polished melodic rock song, blending seamlessly into the styles of the radio, but standing out in terms of quality. While the lyrics could certainly use a bit more imagination (in addition to being only a few repeated lines, they lack any real meaning), when delivered in the smooth, soaring vocals of Ian Kenny (of Karnivool fame) and accompanied by catchy pop-rock riffs, Silhouettic is quite a song. The instrumental part a couple of minutes into the song is a great addition. One can imagine that a fair bit of production work occurred on this piece.

If this is an indication of the work that Birds of Tokyo are capable of doing, then they will indeed be a band to watch in the near future. When Karnivool are on break, anyway.
