walking to winter red single

Cast your mind back to being a child, where good behaviour was sometimes rewarded with a treat. This is the feeling you can tap into with the latest single by up and coming band Walking to Winter. After years of listening to male dominated Indie/pop music, we can all be treated to a pleasant change with this six piece band of Emily (Vocals), Laura (Vocals and Keyboard), Alfy (Guitar), Grant (Guitar), Rick (Bass) and Alwin (Drums).

The new single is named Red Single and is in fitting with their hot success on the music scene so far, launching albums and singles to sell out venues. As you would hope, Walking to Winter has progressed from the release of their first self-titled album. Don’t get me wrong I love the first album, but a true test of the longevity of a band is their ability to continually grow and develop together.

Beginning with an intense riff the first song is Face the Scream. For anyone who has made big changes in life recently, this wonderfully astute piece of music is a suitable anthem to encourage you to “Chase the dream, become the one you’ve dreamed of being”. With all the depth that comes from a big band and the subtly of a gentle melody you’ll be singing and bopping along in no time.

Emily’s unique and smooth voice is the change we’ve been patiently waiting for in talented female vocalists. The girls (Emily and Laura) together produce similar vocal strength to Kate Miller Heidke, and its no surprise that Walking to Winter supported Kate on her latest tour. Their distinctive sound is evident in the second song on the single - Loveless. Before you even realise it you are swaying gently and singing along to very insightful lyrics of a forbidden love. The song speaks volumes of a love that can’t be known and the recognition that it probably shouldn’t be experienced.

All will leave you to join me in eagerly anticipating a second album.
