The new project from Machine Gun Felatio’s frontman Pinky Beecroft is both unique and quirky. It is a definite development from the layered depth of MGF yet still has a sharp witty edge to a lot of the songs. Pinky’s on again off again recording style meant that he has gone through a number of band members settling with Nick Steward (George), Christain McBride (Field Day) and Ken Folan (Irish musician). This has altered the influences and sound over the span of the White Russians. Nick has definitely influenced a lot of the guitar sounds using his previous experience with George to give this band a different edge.
The first track, 'The New Miss Sweden' is a quirky romantic tale using pop choruses and peculiar guitar sounds to create a catchy yet unique sound. Pinky has a very unique use of lyrics and is very smart yet sexual words. His vocal techniques are very similar to those used in MGF. The second track is a slower song on this EP, 'Fabulous Driving' builds itself up, layering piano, bass and drums well to explode into a very beautiful song. One of the brilliant things with Pinky is his songs are able to range and vary without it seem like at any time he may be out of his depth.
The third track 'Make your selection, press OK' is a deep strong song. This song takes some time to grow on you but once it does it really stands out on this EP.
The forth track 'Got Control' is really an up step to get your groove on. This is probably my favourite track on this EP. The guitars enhance the emotions and build on this song. The fifth track 'Glorybox' is the final track and tops the entire EP, it finishes it on a beautiful note using backing singers and delves deep into Pinky’s emotion and helps find out what he is really all about.
The lyrics are one of the highpoints on this EP; they are really versatile and interesting throughout the EP. I really enjoy what he has to say although it isn’t either political nor out of depth to most people. I believe his experience with other bands has really developed his song writing skills and his vocals are neither overstretched nor underused.
It was recorded partly at Origami Studios in South Sydney and further in a home studio in a basement at Redfern as Pinky travelled further to his roots.
Some of the lower points of he EP include the flat snare sounds in some tracks. Although it is not really much of a stretch from MGF’s later stuff is that really such a bad thing?

Perhaps it a little less layered than the MGF music but a rawer version and truly amazing music. The EP is an introduction into the future sounds of the White Russians and Pinky. The only problem is that it may take even longer for them to bring out an LP depending on Pinky’s ability to grasp reality and focus himself solely on a single project for an extended period of time.
