Dardanelles - Of Course You Said (Single)

The Dardanelles is a strait which divides Europe from Asia. As a result, it is a highly strategic stretch of water and was the focus of the now infamous Battle of Gallipoli in 1915. It is also the namesake of a five piece 'dark dance floor post punk' band from Melbourne.
Their new single, 'Of Course You Said', is a two track affair taken from their debut EP, Origami Tree. To this reviewer, it is more of the same "four on the floor" synth-driven angst (read: Killers) that seems to be the musical fashion at the moment.
Only one verse and a chorus have been written but this lack of lyrical content is inconsequential to the song. The overdriven voice is only serving the function of adding to the already present paranoia and melancholy. The pace of the song is urgent and the sound is spacious, especially in the breakdown which is complete with hand claps.
For those unconvinced by its danceability, the second offering is a doofier remix of the first track. It is a drawn out affair with a heavier beat, deeper synths and the mandatory chorus which is repeated ad nauseum.
Both tracks go nowhere but could serve to keep a 2am two-step going on a Saturday night in a half empty discotheque
